Statement::

I have chosen to become an artist, not to be a better artist but to use the language of painting and drawing to have conversations about what is important to me. Lineage and legacy has become important to me. Little exists of my own family history. Vague memories and anecdotes told by my siblings offer a collage of stories that leave more questions than answers due to lack of the detail and context. Decades from now my hope is to have a dense collection of works questioning our roles in relationships through the activities we do together as people and family.

Lineage can begin anytime I choose. I have chosen to begin now. I choose to not show recognizable facial features in order to provide a plurality of possible identifications for these figures, giving the viewer more accessibility to the work and allowing them to visualize anyone they’d like.
